Mary Alptekin is the Education Coordinator. She has leveraged her experience in the education arena and her passion for helping students tap their full potential to orchestrate First Serve Bridgeport’s after-school academic support program, as well as the Summer educational enrichment program.
Mary is an active tennis player and youth advocate. Upon the launch of the USTA’s Junior Team Tennis program in 2007, Mary jumped into a leadership mode and managed nearly 25 junior teams over the course of the following 8 years, affecting more than 100 athletes between the ages of 7-18. She has loved giving young players the opportunity to experience teamwork in a sport where individual results can often trump all else.
Mary has also chaired multiple education committees, including her service as the Co-President for Darien Advocates for the Education of the Gifted (DAEG), where she pushed for better STEM education for all students in the district.
She currently works as an Independent Educational Consultant, primarily helping students to navigate the college application process. Her skill and wisdom are brought to bear within the College Advisory element of First Serve Bridgeport’s program. With this, Mary sees it as her goal “ … to smooth the path to success and level the playing field for our first generation and under-resourced students, so that all children have an opportunity to be their best self."
Mary is married and the proud mom of 3 tennis-playing engineers.
